Today we explored Arequipa, walking around the city center.
After lunch at a great potato restaurant (different kinds of potato slices covered with a topping) we visited Juanita, also known as the Ice Princess, who was sacrificed by the Inca’s to the gods. The mummy is still in good condition because it has been preserved by the ice near the top of the mountain where it was found. Juanita is apparently one of the hundreds of sacrifices made by the Inca’s to keep the mountain gods in their favor.
After returning to the same restaurant for another great potato meal we returned in time to our hostel to catch the night bus to Lima.
