We woke up at 4am to be able to see the sunrise in Machu Picchu, even though Ana is not particularly charmed by sunrises. When we were lining up for the bus, it was still pouring as it had been all night. When we finally arrived we saw the city for a moment in its true splendor, postcard perfect and a little mystical!
When Martijn visited the site after walking the Inca Trail 11 years ago all he saw was fog, and nature repeated its trick when it was Martijn’s turn for his morning picture (literally in a matter of moments!).
Fortunately the weather cleared and we were able to explore the entire city and its amazing surroundings.
We had a nice basic lunch, the view wasn't too bad either.
We had to exit the park to take a toilet break, and for the price we paid at least they provided toilet paper.
We also saw some wildlife along the way.
The site is so impressive that even the llama stopped to enjoy the view.
We ended our visit with a short hike to the Inca Bridge, in the middle of incredibly steep mountains.
After walking down back to Aguas Calientes for about an hour, we had been walking from 6 AM to 6 PM, so were relieved to take the train and then bus back to Cusco (4 hours total of relaxed sitting).
