The park was still closed so we continued seeing less visited sites. We passed along the Italian rocks that had beautiful rock formations that look like towers.
Ana had the back seat all to herself during the jeep tour.
We had been worried that because of the change in itinerary we would miss flamingos. Fortunately we saw plenty, first at a small lake from afar, and then from up close at Hedionda/Foul Smelling Lagoon. We saw three different species, the Andean, Chilean and James Flamingos.
We also passed a relatively smaller salt flat, Salar de Chiguana, that was crossed by train tracks still in use to export the salt.
We saw Inca mummies at San Juan de Rosario.
We stayed the night at a salt hostel, where practically everything was made of salt, including the walls, tables, chairs and our bed.
Next stop was a black lagoon.
We saw the active Ollague Volcano on the border of Bolivia and Chile.
