Day 361 Miami and Gators 31 January 2013

After arriving in Miami international airport after our 4 hour red eye we picked up our rental car and headed out for breakfast at a Cuban restaurant. Martijn enjoyed the Cuban coffee (espresso style) so much he had 3 of them to accompany the tasty sandwiches. According to the waitress he would not sleep for a week.

With our belly filled we decided to head into Miami to see the city, which lead us to little Havana and the art deco area of Miami Beach.

We continued west through the Everglades National Park and visited Shark Valley, where we opted to do the bicycle tour (15 miles/24km). Already in the first meters we spotted many alligators just hanging out next to the path, thankfully too lazy to move.

We also saw an incredible amount of birds, including several different kinds of herons and a pink bird which apparently was not a flamingo. The birds are so abundant since the fish literally jump out of the water trying to be caught.

The bicycle ride led us to viewing tower, which allowed for better views of the swampy area.

Tired of the flight and the 2.5 hours of bicycling we were happy to arrive in Naples where we stayed the night.
