When we booked our round the world ticket we had to use dummy dates
for the flights more than 6 months away from our start date. These dates were
eventually changed to fit our actual itinerary, however today when we arrived
at the Lima airport, we experienced a hiccup. Our flights to Miami were in the
system, but only Martijn's flight was for the 2nd of January 2013, Ana's flight was still for the 22nd of October 2012. We were in shock! But the
flight attendant told us she would see what she could do for us. She went to
the back while we waited at the counter for 30 min. The slowest most gut
wrenching 30 min ever. When she returned, with a facial expression we could not
read, we held our breath as she punched some keys on the keyboard and then
looked up and told us the ticket was re-issued and we would both be on the
airplane at 8:30 heading to the States. What a relief!
An uneventful flight brought us to Miami
international airport where we had to wait for our connecting flight to Las
Vegas after passing customs. This was the first time we entered the United States together as a married couple.
We asked for a restaurant recommendation and were told to go to Carreta, a Cuban Restaurant. We had delicious Ropa Vieja, rice with black beans and fried bananas.
