We crossed over to the new year together with Ekeko, the Peruivan Altoplano god of abundance, fertility and joy loaded with things for the new year ( bag of money, guitar, loaf of bread, a house, suitcase for traveling, drinks, bag of corn, bowl of rice and book).
Then, because it would just be awkward to show up at a nice new years eve party with our hiking boots on, we decided to walk around and see what the night would bring us. We ended up at the Lancomar shopping district. Here we counted down to 2013 in Spanish and had our midnight kiss. Then we were treated to a loud and a bit too close for comfort do-it-yourself firework show.
Around 1am we headed back to our hostel and opened up our champagne to toast in the New Year!
We were wearing new yellow underwear for good luck in the 2013 and brought an empty suitcase to bring us (even more) traveling in the new year (we have to walk around the block with it). Finally we had our 12 grapes, actually chocolate covered raisins, that’s kind of the same as grapes, for our 12 wishes for the new year.
We relaxed the whole day! Then we headed out for an easy dinner of sandwiches and frozen strawberry drinks.

Happy New Year to all!
